Joice across borders and generations

At the age of 75 a whole new world has been opened to me. It all started when I was introduced to the video telephone Joice by my friend Gerd Pagrotsky. I live in a small house in Båstad, so I don’t live at a senior citizen home.

About ten years ago my husband became ill with senile dementia, and was unfortunately unable to remain at home. When I visited my husband he recognized me, but he no longer recognized his own children. This made our children and grandchildren more worried about me.

Despite being able to use a computer I only use it to email. When I was introduced to the video telephone Joice, I didn’t hesitate for a second. I had to have one!

Now I am able to talk and see my daughter Kina who lives in South of France. Kina usually calls me from her computer to my TV each morning when it is the easiest to reach me. I am an active retiree and have many activities and therefore it isn’t so easy to reach me during the days. Sometimes if I am in the shower and have not had a chance to get dressed I just push a button on the remote so I can’t be seen. One isn’t always decent.

I also have my daughter Helena who lives here in Båstad. My three grandchildren go to school right beside my house. They drop by regularly and usually ask if they can call their Aunt Kina. This way Kina can keep in touch with the family here at home easily, otherwise they only see each other a few times a year.

My son Johan lives in Gothenburg with his three children. Johan travels a lot with work, and therefore they do not get the chance to visit me in Båstad so often, which is why it is even more fun to see them and talk to them as I now do via my TV. Sometimes I call just to hear about everyday things.

Sometimes my friend Lilian, who lives in Copenhagen comes to visit. Lilian also knew Gerd and we usually call and talk together. It is so much fun not only to hear a voice, but also to be able to see each other.

The Joice box has given me tons of enjoyment and new possibilities. It is great that contacts keep increasing. Joice is really visual communication between generations and it is so easy. I don’t need to remember any telephone numbers as I just click on pictures that I have in my address registry.
